Fuvahmulah Havihtha is the ruins of an old pre-Islamic temple like structure that dates back to at least more than 1500 years.
It is widely believed that the Havihtha is ruins of a Buddhist stupa. According to British archeologist H.C.P Bell who visited Fuvahmulah in 1922, there is a close resemblance between the Havihtha and Dagabas he had seen in the old capital of Sri Lanka.
Later on, in the 1980’s, Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl came up with the possibility of the idea that the Havihtha could likely have been a sacral building that dates even further back to pre-Buddhist times.
